Services
Blending inspiration with frankness, Janet and her team create customized publishing and platform plans, concept labs, live events and services to meet your needs–and reach beyond them. We help you make excellent things happen with your ideas and work!
If you are an accomplished expert in your niche with a book outline or manuscript, an entrepreneur, thought leader, or nonprofit executive who is ready to “go national,” a creative person ready for a wider audience, or a fiction or nonfiction author in need of strategic direction, Janet and her partners can provide transformative insight, thought partnership, coaching, and solutions to take you and your work to the next level
A Note About Our Approach
A unique aspect of our approach is bringing together “content development” and “constituency-building”. Whether you’re working on a book, publishing plan, or idea-based initiative, we know that the more organic, aligned, and integrated the editorial, marketing, and business development aspects of your project and launch, the more successful it becomes. As you conceptualize, share, and hone your work, you establish your voice, raise your visibility, and find your audience. These platform-building efforts become part of your story, creating a sense of validity, buzz, and newsworthiness–all while helping attract readers, partners, publishers, clients, the media, and fans.
A Note About the “Right” Way to Publish
We are agnostic about mainstream versus self-publishing (all pathways are good when done well); online versus traditional marketing; or launching ideas as books, blogs, events, products, or services. There is no right way, regardless of what different “camps” might say. The right approach is right for your idea, stage, goals, resources, and genre. (In fact, sometimes the real question is: When is the right time to publish? There may be other short- and long-term steps that will better serve your ambition and audience.)

Concept & Proposal Labs – Honing Your “IT”
A sweet spot of Janet’s practice is concept development–what she calls finding the “It” or the “Grape Jelly” which gives a book, idea, or launch a sense of clarity, integrity, and stickiness. She has been dubbed “the concept doctor” and is a go-to person for literary agents, writers, and experts when they want an experienced guide to help crystallize, frame, position and decide on a winning idea, whether it’s a first project, a next book by an established author, or a new venture. Publishing & Strategy Consulting – Our Signature Editorial Platform, and Business Development Projects & Blueprints
These powerful and customized consulting projects-the heart of Janet’s practice–are designed to take your ideas, creative projects, and business (every author is an entrepreneur today) to the next level of creative development, reach, impact.
Publishing & Strategy Starter Plans provide a level of expert feedback and recommendations that literary agents don’t have the time for, that most freelance editors and writing teachers are not experienced in, and that business advisers and marketing experts see from the vantage of “what sells” but not necessarily from the vantage of what’s new, what’s next, what will work and have staying power over the long term and in the context of finding a broader (perhaps national) audience. What’s more, Starter Plans get to the heart of you–what steps and strategies will tap into your greatest strengths and address the specific ambitions that you have for your work. [details follow]
Author Launch Blueprints & Coaching – Publisher-in-Your-Pocket Planning and Advising Packages
As Seth Godin said at a live event he hosted in NYC, “No one owes you their attention.” Whether you are self-publishing or are working with a traditional or hybrid publisher, the Author Launch is essential to success in today’s publishing environment and sets the stage for the “long tail” of success. Publishers and publicists can amplify your work, but all authors today are entrepreneurs and need to understand and implement elements of their own launch plan. Fiction writers, memoirists, CEOs, academics, and nonprofits all need to break through the noise to be heard and to draw in readers, clients, and followers. [details follow]
Editorial Collaboration – For High-Potential Authors & Publishers
Janet is the co-author of It’s Not About the Coffee (with Howard Behar) and the editorial architect behind many national best-selling and life-changing books in the fields of leadership, business, psychology and self-help, women’s and multicultural issues, spirituality, narrative nonfiction, memoir, and commercial literary fiction. She is available for select writing, editorial development, and book doctoring projects for publishers, literary agents, and high-potential individual clients. She is supported by a small team of highly trusted and experienced editors with substantial trade book experience, usually with prior experience working directly with Janet. [details follow]
Group Mentor Programs – The Power of Community & Masterminds
Janet and her select partners offer high-level mentoring intensives 1-3 times a year. Please email for information about upcoming group programs. Workshop attendees and prior and current clients receive preference.
